Cameras for Conservation

Westmoreland Sanctuary’s 640-acre nature preserve is home to diverse flora and fauna. Game cameras allow staff, students, and interns to track the wildlife that uses Westmoreland as a home and as a greenway on their travels.

The use of game cameras as a tool in conservation has gained ground quickly in the last few years. Previously, biologists needed to trap animals to monitor their population and determine the health of the ecosystem. We have caught many notoriously shy animals on camera including turkeys, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, skunks, and hawks.
