Stephen SciameDirector of Education
Stephen is a long time nature enthusiast with a Master’s in Education in Park and Recreation Administration from Lehman College He has been teaching about the environment and recreation since his Eagle Scout project helping to educate the public about hawk migration at the State Line Lookout at the Palisades Park Commission in New Jersey. For the Last several years he has been working with the New York State Parks department as a maintenance worker and nature guide. At Rockefeller State Park he lead many well attended public programs covering a variety of subject topics from scavenger hunts to edible plant identification. Although comfortable teaching different subjects Stephen’s main interests are birds of prey, wilderness survival skills, and animal adaptations. One of his favorite educational experiences is showing people the amazing properties all around us, even in something as simple as a feather or the dandelions in your yard.
Stephen RickerDirector of Conservation and Wildlife Management / General Manager
A graduate of Unity College in Maine, one of the leading environmental colleges in the country, he joined the Westmoreland family in 1990. Steve’s environmental philosophy is, “it is most efficient to work with nature as opposed to trying to do the work of nature ourselves”. Education is the most useful tool to shape the future of our planet and our local communities. Recently, Steve has enjoyed training and teaching summer college interns about environmental management techniques, such as, bird banding, flora and fauna identification, invasive species removal and habitat restoration. Steve regularly helps people with wildlife problems and offers consultations to homeowners who want to attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife to their property, no matter how big or small.
