The following is a list of programs available for Nursery School through adult. Please call our office to speak to our staff about any of these programs and to get information on arranging a trip. MAMMALS: Year Round / indoors or outdoorsWe discuss the life histories of native local mammals and their relationship to us. This program gives children a chance to see and touch animal furs and bones, while learning what makes mammals different from other animals. BIRD BANDING DEMONSTRATION: Last week in April - May and October / outdoors. See LIVE native birds, as we discuss various aspects of birds such as life histories, nesting, relationships to man and migration. We will then discuss what bird banding is, why it is important, and demonstrate the banding of a bird. Students help release the birds and see how they are caught. *This program meets the requirements for the Webelos Naturalist Badge or can be tailored to fit your individual school or scout group needs. MAPLE SUGARING DEMONSTRATION: Last week of February - March only / Outdoors Visit our old fashioned maple sugaring house and see a live presentation of how syrup is made. We'll demonstrate the tapping of a tree all the way to preparing the final product. After all our work, students participate in a syrup taste test. GUIDED NATURE HIKE: Year Round / Dress for the seasons. What better way to learn about nature and the environment than with this program. We have the opportunity to get out in the field and discuss topics such as tree identification and signs of animal life. Students and teachers are always surprised at what our naturalists help them find on our trails. REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS: Year Round / Indoors or Outdoors Join us as we examine the unique characteristics of these fascinating groups of animals. Learn what makes them different from us. This program gives children a chance to see and feel live animals. ANIMAL KINGDOMS: Year Round / Indoors and Outdoors In this program, students are introduced to five major groups of animals. We'll learn about reptiles, birds, mammals, amphibians and insects. Instructors utilize LIVE animals, bones, furs and other specimens to teach what characteristics separate these groups and make them unique.
